On January 8, 2020, Dr. Doreen Burdack, head of the project "Digitalization & Nutrition" in the Leibniz Research Alliance "Sustainable Food Production and Healthy Nutrition", was invited to the Ministry of Food and Agriculture to present: "Opportunities and Risks of Digitalization in Nutrition and their Impact on Agriculture, Consumers, Markets, Health and Sustainability" and to discuss the technical exchange with the support of Dr. Petra Wiedmer from German Institute for Nutritional Research (DIfE).

Findings showing the importance, opportunities and risks of digitalization and future developments in the food sector were presented. They illustrate the connections in the entire value chain and the need for interdisciplinary cooperation. Close exchanges between science, politics and business are also important. In addition, faster and more flexible research funding systems are needed to keep up with the rapid pace of technological development.
