Who we are

14 Leibniz Institutes with the highest level of scientific competence in agricultural, food and nutrition research.

The Leibniz Research Alliance 'Sustainable Food Production and Healthy Nutrition' (LRA FN) is devoted to solving questions in the context of food production and healthy nutrition, with a strong emphasis on sustainability. 


Our Aims and Mission

  • Pooling scientific expertise to develop innovative research approaches and perspectives for a sustainable agricultural production and in every respect healthy nutrition of the future.
  • Generation of new knowledge to ensure safe and efficient production and provision of customers with high quality and healthy food.
  • Active inclusion of society-relevant scientific aspects, problems and questions.
  • Creation of a platform for dialogue and knowledge exchange among science, economy and society

Our Thematic Working Groups

1: Nutrition and Health - adequate diets for a healthy life and ageing.

2: Food Security as a Global Challenge - equal access to nutritious, high-quality and affordable food taking into account local and regional specifics.

3: Food Quality and Food Safety - innovative and intelligent techniques and infrastructures along the producer's and industry’s value chain to ensure animal welfare and consumer protection.

4: Consumption and Agricultural Markets - disentangling the complexity of the food chain from the producer to the consumer.

5: Sustainable Agriculture and 'Agriculture 4.0'- new patterns of collaboration, scientific exchange, digitization and data collection with an emphasis on sustainable livestock and crop farming, horticulture, and on food safety.


Our Latest Research Projects


ALDI Nord Stiftungs GmbH supports LRA FN

The ALDI Nord Stiftungs GmbH holds a strong social commitment to partners and projects which promote community and environment. For its commitment in the field of sustainable food production and healthy nutrition, the ALDI Nord Stiftungs GmbH supports the Leibniz Research Alliance Food and Nutrition, in particular the project ‘Protein Paradoxes: Protein supply under the conditions of climate change – production, consumption and human health’ with a generous financial grant. These funds will contribute to the continued research and development of the project, which aims to develop a strategy for the protein supply of the future.
